DSB Technologies Wins Grand Prize in MPIF Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards
Janesville, WI — June 17, 2025 — DSB Technologies is proud to announce it has been awarded the Grand Prize in the Automotive - Engine Category at the 2025 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards, presented by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) in Phoenix, AZ. The award was accepted by Jeremy Koth – Metallurgist for DSB Technologies and recognizes DSB’s exceptional achievement in the design and production of an innovative powder metal component used in next-generation automotive engines.
The award-winning component is a stainless-steel flange used to connect a urea injector to the exhaust system of a diesel engine. This part experiences elevated temperatures and is exposed to urea, which requires the part to have high corrosion resistance along with good weldability. Machining operations are utilized to add additional features that are not possible during compaction; such as, undercuts, a steep cone, and a threaded hole. This recognition highlights the role of powder metallurgy in creating high-strength, complex components that support fuel efficiency and engine optimization.
The design team behind the project includes Dave Keto- Application’s Engineer , Paul Attoe – New Product Launch Engineer and Dan Finet – Senior Tooling Engineer, Dan Blum – Senior Engineering Technician with Dan Olson serving as the Lead Diesetter on the project. Their collaborative effort brought together deep technical expertise and precision tooling to deliver a part that meets tight tolerances and exceeds industry standards for engine performance.
“We’re honored to be recognized with this Grand Prize,” said Kimberly Adamany, Chief Operating Officer, at DSB Technologies. “This award is a testament not only to our advanced technology, but to the experience and dedication of the individuals behind the design and production. Dave, Paul, Dan, and Dan represent the very best of what DSB stands for — innovation, craftsmanship, and teamwork.”
The component was produced using a high-density, 304L stainless steel material and optimized die design, showcasing the full potential of powder metallurgy in reducing cost, weight, and complexity without compromising strength or reliability.
The MPIF Design Excellence Awards celebrate the best in powder metallurgy innovation across industries. DSB Technologies’ win in the Automotive - Engine category further solidifies its leadership in delivering high-performance solutions to the mobility market.
